The federal government of Germany is promoting the diffusion of renewable energies, thereby intending to induce the structural change of the energy supply as well as enhance growth and employment. This project is going to analyse effects of supportive measures for the promotion of renewable energies on productivity, production and employment on the general economic and sectoral level.
For this purpose a quantitative model is going to be set up, which is able to account for these medium to long-term impacts on the sectoral and general economic level. Starting point is the National Institute Global Econometric Model (NiGEM) which is going to be widely enlarged and enriched by sectoral details like supply structures and by the explicit inclusion of the renewable energy sectors for Germany.
A special emphasis is given to evaluating the direct and indirect positive and negative employment effects with regard to competition and innovative potential of renewables.
