Report of July 1, 2019
Deadline for the 2020 Survey: September 30, 2019.
Use the Survey of Refugees, now in its fourth wave, for your own research questions.
The IAB, BAMF, and SOEP invite researchers to propose questions to be added to the Survey of Refugees questionnaire in 2020, its fourth wave. If you would like to suggest any additional questions or items on refugees that are relevant to your current or future research and that would benefit from the longitudinal character of the IAB-BAMF-SOEP Survey of Refugees in Germany (please see project description and the questionnaires 2017), we would be happy to hear from you.
You can suggest questions on a wide range of topics including:
In 2021, the Research Data Centers of the SOEP, IAB, and BAMF will present an anonymized dataset including the submitted questions to the German and international community. The survey data are already linked with the IAB’s integrated employment biography data and therefore offer great analytical potential for research on labor markets and integration. Furthermore, the refugee survey will be linked with existing IAB-SOEP migration samples and SOEP samples from 1984 to 2020, offering the opportunity to conduct research across diverse groups, such as Germans, migrants, and refugees.
A total of 4,465 adult refugees in 3,289 households participated in the first wave of IAB-BAMF-SOEP Survey of Refugees (2016). In May 2017, 1,500 additional households were added to the sample. In 2018, 3,911 refugees aged 18 or above who came to Germany as asylum seekers between 2013 and 2016 were interviewed.
Please note that the IAB-BAMF-SOEP Survey of Refugees is a computer-assisted face-to-face survey using audio files in seven different languages: German, English, Arabic, Persian, Pashto, Kurmanji, and Urdu.
Researchers interested in submitting questions or items should contact SOEP Survey Management by August 30, 2019, to present their proposal. If the project is determined to be viable from a survey methodology perspective, an official application procedure will follow. The official application must be received by September 30, 2019.
Applications should be submitted in English to email@example.com.
